Three women die for food poisoning

PALANPUR:
Three aged women, who were part of a group returning from a pilgrimage in north India, died of food poisoning after they consumed some eatables en route, sources close to their family said.

A group of around 50 people from Jamda village near Tharad town of Banaskantha district had gone to Haridwar, Allahabad and other religious places in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh in a hired private bus.

Bharat Soni, one of the group members told TOI that several people fell ill after having food in Allahabad. “All of them suffered from severe diarrhoea and dysentery. Due to severe heat, their health deteriorated and we decided to cut short our tour,” Soni said. “However, when we reached Bharatpur one woman died and soon two others also succumbed on way. Ten others have been admitted to a private hospital in Palanpur,” said Soni, a native of Tharad, who lives in Ratnakar Society in Deesa.
